Water Treatment - Pure and Simple

Aptly called the source of life, water is essential to our bodies. It transports nutrients and oxygen to our cells. It moistens our tissues. It cushions our joints and protects our vital organs. Small wonder we’re advised to drink eight glasses worth every day.
But, of course, the water filling those glasses ought to be pure, clean and healthy.
Water purifiers are definitely the best route to make sure you have just that in your home. These days, purification systems in North America houses are almost de rigueur, and for good reasons. No one wants to be inadvertently guzzling – brace yourself – bacteria, viruses, moulds, chlorine, lead, herbicides, pesticides and more. Plus using a water filter means you don’t have to buy bottled water any more, which saves money and the planet (fewer plastic bottles that end up as landfill).



Whole House Carbon Filters


Our Whole House Carbon Filters are used on municipal water sources to reduce unwanted tastes and odors.

Whole House Carbon Filters are a Point of Entry (POE) type filter, typically installed just after the municipal water meter. Outside taps can be bypassed. But, if you have an organic vegetable garden it is best to use pollutant free water.

These filters utilize the surface area of small activated carbon granules to bind and contain trace chemicals and organics, keeping them from entering your water supply.

Interesting Facts:

One teaspoon of granular Activated Carbon has a surface area equivalent to that of a football field.

Carbon Filters should only be used with microbiologically safe and adequately disinfected water.


Water Softeners


HARDNESS is a term to describe the presence of calcium and magnesium minerials in water. A chemical analysis accurately measures the amount minerials in grain weight. For example, one gallon of water with five grains per gallon (gpg) hardness has dissolved minerials, that if solidified, about equals the size of one ordinary aspirin tablet. One gallon of water, 25 gpg hard, has a mineral content equal in size to five aspirin tablets. Water hardness varies greatly across the country. It generally contains from 3 to 100 gpg.


Under the Counter Carbon Filters


This type of system typically comes in three sizes, Single Stage, Dual Stage or Triple Stage Filtration.

The key factors to remember in choosing your under-counter-charbon-filter system is Contact Time, Carbon Block Filters, Granular Activated Carbon Filters and Sediment Filters.

Contact Time,
To understand this easily we like to illustrate that carbon is like a magnetic sponge and the containments in water have a magnetic charge opposite to carbon. As water passing through and or past the carbon some containments adhere to the side of carbon and others become trapped in the carbon.
Therefore, the more time it takes for the water to get throught the carbon (and the cleaner the carbon is) the better the filtration results.

Carbon Block Filters,

The advantage of Carbon Block filters is that water must pass through the carbon block filter before it can get to your tap. Carbon Block Filters typically offer better filtration results then Granular Carbon Filters. Carbon Block filters are more likely to clog and restrict the flow of water when they become full of containments.
Carbon Block filters are rated by their filtration capabilty, measured in microns. The most common sizes on the market range from 0.05 microns (very good) to 10.0 microns (good).

Granular Activated Carbon Filters (GAC),

With Granular Carbon filters water passes around the peices of Granular Carbon before it can get to your tap. Granular Carbon filters are more likely not to clog and restrict the flow of water when they become full of containments. And the flow of water may create a pathway of least resistance, that water may never make contact with the carbon. Unfortunetly, this means that containments are more likely to get to your tap.
GAC filters are rated by their filtration capabilty, measured in microns. GAC filters are commonly 20 microns.
We recommend Granular Carbon Filters be followed up with a Carbon Block Filter.

Sediment Filters,

Sediment filters are sacrificial filters. Thier purpose is to remove sediment before the carbon filters to prolong the life of the more expensive carbon filters.
Sediment filters are designed to clog and restrict the flow of water when they become full of containments.
Sediment filters are rated by their filtration capabilty, measured in microns. The most common sizes on the market range from 0.01 microns to 30.0 microns.
